Althea Lady Drake

Althea L. (Lady) Drake Mrs. Althea Lee (Lady) Drake, age 100, of Wharton died Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in the Czech Catholic Home in Hillje following an extended illness. She was born on May 11, 1912 in Evergreen, Hamilton Co., Texas the daughter of the late Lemuel Lee Evans and Althea Bunnell Evans. Mrs. Drake was a long-time resident of Wharton. She was a school teacher in the Boling and Wharton school districts for over 40 years. Mrs. Drake taught at the Wharton County Junior College. She was a graduate of Baylor University, East Texas State University and the University of Houston. She married Lawton Paris Drake in1936 in Hamilton, TX and he preceded her in death in January 1959. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wharton where she was a Sunday School Teacher for many years. Mrs. Drake was a life-long member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Order of the Eastern Star. Following Cremation, memorial graveside services and interment will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Evans and Melissa Drake of Midlothian, VA. She is also survived by five grandchildren: John (Suzanne) Drake of Richmond, VA; Aaron Drake of Wilmington, NC; Dr. Avery Drake of West Hartford, CT; Capt. Lawton (Erin) Drake of Midlothian, VA; Griffin Drake of Richmond, KY; and one great grandchild (Justin Moore). Funeral services were under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.
