Sylvia was part of a large family, including two sisters, three brothers, two stepsisters, and four stepbrothers. Her early life involved helping on the family farm, and she met her future husband, Fred, while they both attended Jones Creek School. When Fred returned from serving in World War II, they married on January 22, 1946 and moved to Newgulf, Texas, where they lived for 47 years. Sylvia enjoyed cooking and playing dominos with family and friends. She especially loved dancing, and she and Fred enjoyed the company of many friends in the various dance clubs they joined. Hardly a week would pass without them attending a dance. Sylvia also loved to travel, and with Fred and her family, visited over 45 states and Canada. A favorite was the annual family Summer trip to New Braunfels, Texas.
